Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
Expected Launch: Autumn 2023 | Platforms: PS5
Marvel’s Spider-Man was probably one of the most successful PlayStation exclusive titles in 2018, and Spider-Man Miles Morales that came out in 2020 took the franchise to even greater heights. And now they are back with a sequel to the first Spider-Man game. It’ll be amazing to see both Peter Parker and Miles Morales going some formidable foes like the fan favorite, Venom.
Not much has been revealed about the game, however, we are hoping that this time the open world will be little more expanded and not confined to just the streets of Manhattan.. With Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse also coming to cinemas in June, it’s looking like a terrific year to be a Spider-Man.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
Expected Launch: March 17 | Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S
If you have been a fan of the Star Wars movie series then I am sure you must have had a fantasy of wielding a lightsaber and feel like a Jedi. This was probably one of the reasons for the sale of 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, even if if you could draw easy similarities with Uncharted and Sekiro, Star Wars still managed bring some exclusivity.
The game is expected to be a more exciting sequel to the previous game, one which again follows Cal Kestis five years later, in more grizzled warrior mode after constant years of pursuit from the Empire. Although we have been promised that there will be major improvements to the combat, including new saber stances. But what we are excited for the most is Cal’s new traversal abilities like being able to tame and ride wild animals.
Resident Evil 4
Expected Launch: March 24 | Platforms: PS5, PS4, Xbox, PC
After remaking Resident Evil 2 and 3 for modern platforms, Capcom is ready bring to the world yet again a game which transformed the entire gaming and gave the world a different perspective for gaming. Resident Evil 4 was not only an inspiration for third person shooters like Gears of War, but statistically also the most successful and the most loved game of the entire Resident Evil series so far.
We cannot deny the fact that it is going to be one hell of a task to remake this game and live up to the hype along with making massive improvements to the gameplay, catering to the sensibilities of the current generation gamers. Initial impressions hint at a more of a horror atmosphere than the original’s action-packed B-movie camp, even though the iconic opening village ambush is almost exactly as you remember it, including the terrifying guy wielding a chainsaw. We await Leon Kennedy’s return with nervous anticipation.
Starfield
Expected Launch: 2023 | Platforms: Xbox Series X/S, PC
Starfield happens to be the first open world game from Bethesda in a long time. After The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series, Bethesda has come up with this new title that looks super grand. Originally the game was supposed to be released on November 11 date in 2022 but was delayed due to some inevitable project updates. Now looking at the game footages the delay seems understandable.
But while Starfield is set amongst the stars where you can assemble your own customized spacecraft to visit over 1,000 worlds across over 100 systems, it’s still at heart an action RPG where you will get to choose your alliances or fight space pirates in either first or third-person with a mix of shooter and melee combat. This deserves to be ne of the best upcoming games in 2023.
Street Fighter 6
Expected Launch: June 2 | Platforms: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, PC
Fighting games may have lost popularity in the past couple of years but if there are two titles which are evergreen and carry the potential to change the scene for fighting games in the market, they have to be, Tekken and Street Fighter.
With significant improvements in the game play like, a bold hyper-real style and a more accessible control option, and exciting new system has polished fighting and made the gameplay a little more sophisticated.
Apart from the fantastic roster this game promises to carry, the most amazing thing is the ability to create your own character and use him fights for single-player mode or online battles.
Final Fantasy XVI
Expected Launch: June 22 | Platforms: PS5
If you make a list for best upcoming games in 2023 and not mention Final Fantasy XVI in it, then the list is undoubtedly incomplete. This year surely is an important year for Final Fantasy fans, with two titles to get excited for, including Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. But it is Final Fantasy XVI that has got us all psyched.
With a more mature tone that’s more inspired by Western fantasy like The Witcher or God of War, it’s a controversial departure for the long-running Japanese RPG series although we can still expect a big epic involving crystals and the legendary summoned Eikons.
While it looks like your lead protagonist Clive will still have allies during his journey in a story that spans multiple timelines, this is also a predominantly single-player real-time action-oriented affair. But when the battle director’s credits include Devil May Cry and the criminally underrated Dragon’s Dogma, you know it’s going to be good.
