Biggest eSports Tournaments in the world in 2022 are not capable of being counted on your finger tips, however, we have curated a list of some of the biggest eSports Championships for all the professional gamers out there. As the calendar turns from August to September, the eSports Championship season has already half passed. There are almost four months left for 2022 to end and in these four months there are still a lot more championships to come. Besides the Six Invitational, Rainbow Six’s world championship event which takes place early in the year, most other major eSports championship tournaments take place in the latter half of the year. Apex Legends Global Series Championship
July 7-10 – Charlotte, North Carolina
The Apex Legends Global Series Championship kicks off eSports championship season. The 2021-22 season of ALGS Championship concluded in July with 40 of the best Apex Legends teams from around the world coming to PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina. This was the second international LAN tournament for the ALGS this season following the Split 2 Playoffs. The Asia-Pacific team DarkZero (formerly known as Reignite) won the tournament of 2021-2022 season and were one of the favorites in Raleigh. Team UNITE which, a Fellow APAC squad was another contender, some other top contending teams were, including OpTic Gaming, Team Liquid, TSM and NRG.
Rocket League Championship Series World Championship
Aug. 4-15 – Arlington, Texas
After Majors in Stockholm, Los Angeles and London, the Rocket League Championship Series 2021-22 season has concluded in Arlington, Texas. Europe’s Moist eSports were the favorites after winning the Spring Major and finishing second in the Winter Major, but there were many other contenders. Team BDS won the Fall Major beating the G2 Esports which came second.
NA and EU teams have always been the strongest and the most formidable teams in the Rocket League Series, and things remained same in this season as well. There were huge many teams people had huge expectations with, like Brazilian team FURIA which had back-to-back top six finishes at Majors, and London runners-up Team Falcons from Saudi Arabia were another contender. For the first time ever, there were also teams from Sub-Saharan Africa in this competition.
Call of Duty League Championship
Aug. 4-7 – Los Angeles, California
Call of Duty Champions is without a shadow of doubt is one of the Biggest eSports Tournaments in the World. It is annual COD tournament held at the end of each competitive season to determine the year’s world champion. To be qualified for the tournament, teams must qualify through the events happening before the world championship. Players should be at least 18 years of age. This year teams competed against each other on Call of Duty: Vanguard, in which Los Angeles Thieves came out as winners, with Atlanza FaZe as runner-ups and Seattle Surge holding third position.
VALORANT Champions
Sept. 2-18 – Istanbul, Turkey
The Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) is a competitive eSports tournament series by Riot Games, which has gained global popularity. There are multiple events that take place throughout the year, and by the end of it all happens Valorant Champions, the top-level event of the tour. The VCT was announced in 2020, with its inaugural season taking place in 2021.
In this year’s season Riot has some changes to the tournament. The overall structure of Challengers, Masters, and Champions are unchanged, however, the number of stages of Challengers and Masters events have reduced from three to two. VCT Challengers began on February 11, 2022. The 2022 Champions tournament will take place from September 1 to 18 in Istanbul, Turkey.
Overwatch League Grand Finals
Overwatch League as the name suggest is an eSports league on the game Overwatch by Blizzard Entertainment. The Overwatch League like other traditional North American eSports leagues use a set of permanent, city-based teams backed by separate ownership groups. And this is not it, the league plays in the regular season and playoffs format rather than the use of promotion and relegation which is another common thing shared by other North American eSports leagues. The players on the roster are assured a minimum annual salary, benefits, and a portion of winnings and revenue-sharing based on team performance. This is something really fantastic for professional gamers. The league was announced in 2016 with its inaugural season taking place in 2018, with a total prize pool of US$3.5 million given to teams that year.
League of Legends World Championship
October – Mexico City, New York City, Atlanta and San Francisco
The League of Legends World Championship which is often called as Worlds is the annual professional League of Legends eSports World championship tournament hosted by Riot Games. Teams compete for the champion title, the 70-pound (32-kilogram) Summoner’s Cup, and a multi-million-dollar championship prize. In 2018, the final was watched by 99.6 million people, breaking 2017’s final’s viewer record. The tournament has been praised for its ceremonial performances, while receiving attention worldwide due to its dramatic and emotional nature.
Each year the Tournament takes place at different locations. South Korea’s T1 is the most successful team in the tournament’s history, having won three world championships.
The International
Oct. 15-30 – Singapore
The International is one of the biggest eSports tournaments for the video game Dota 2, hosted and produced by the game’s developer Valve. The International was first held as a promotional event at Gamescom for the game in 2011, and since then has been held annually except for 2020 due to Covid-19.
The tournament consists of 20 teams; 12 based on final results from the Dota Pro Circuit and six more from winning regional playoffs from the North America, South America, Southeast Asia, China, Eastern Europe, and Western Europe regions.
Halo World Championship
Oct. 20-23 – Seattle, Washington
After Majors in Kansas City and Orlando, the HCS season will end with the Halo World Championship. The Orlando Major which takes place in September will have a big impact on the teams that will be in Seattle. The top 12 from Orlando will automatically qualify for the world championship. The other eight spots will go to the top teams in the HCS points standings from North America, Europe, Mexico and Oceania. North American teams are the strongest in Halo esports, and Sentinels are the reigning Major champions, with Cloud9 and OpTic Gaming also among the strongest teams.
