CAN INDIA SUSTAIN WITHOUT CHINESE APPS ?

Chinese apps at one point were most widely downloaded and used in India. But those days are long gone.

Aatma-Nirbhar Bharat (transl. self-reliant India) is the vision of the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi of making India a self-reliant nation.

Aatmanirbhar Innovation Challenge, introduced by PM Modi urges Indians to innovate new apps for the community who hold vision and expertise in the same.

Earlier this week, India banned 59 Chinese apps like TikTok, ShareIt, UC Browser, etc due to the ongoing tension between India and China at the Line Of Actual Control(LAC), where the Indian Government believes that these apps were a threat to the National Security and Defense of India.

The Chinese apps were “stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data in an unauthorized manner to servers which have locations outside India,” India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said in a statement.

“The compilation of these data, its mining ,and profiling by elements hostile to national security and defense of India, which ultimately impinges upon the sovereignty and integrity of India, is a matter of very deep and immediate concern which requires emergency measures,” the statement added.

But the major concern was to deal with the void that has been created due to this sudden ban. Most of these Chinese apps had huge prominence and popularity among Indian people and, therefore, had huge dominance over the Indian market. The greater challenge now is how to give Indians something similar or even better than what they were previously so profoundly familiar with.

This challenge will be regulated under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and will run on 2 Tracks

1. Promotion of the existing Apps ( of platforms like Gaming, Entertainment, E-learning )
2. Development of the new Apps
