Is ‘FIFA 23’ the last ‘FIFA’ game?

This is quiet unfortunate, but it is true. After 30 years finally one of the most famous game franchise will come to an end. Yes, FIFA 23 will be the last installment in the FIFA video game franchise.

For 30 years, EA was the publishing partner with FIFA. With every FIFA game developers tried bringing something new with an updated roster, better gameplay mechanics, dream teams and more. But after FIFA 23, that partnership comes to an end.

If reports are to be believed, FIFA apparently demanded more money from EA to use its name on the game franchise. As an already well established publisher and developer, EA finally decided to build its own soccer game franchise to rival against other soccer games like FIFA and PES. These games wil be published under a new trademark “EA Sports FC”.

The world of football and the world of entertainment are changing, and they clash within our product,” the Vice President at EA Sports David Jackson told BBC. “In the future, our players will demand of us the ability to be more expansive in that offering. At the moment, we engage in play as a primary form of interactive experience. Soon, watching and creating content are going to be equally as important for fans. Under the licensing conventions that we had agreed with FIFA 10 years ago, there were some restrictions that weren’t going to allow us to be able to build those experiences for players.

What is EA Sports FC?

The upcoming FIFA game will be the last partnership between EA and FIFA.

After the release of FIFA 23 you will not be seeing anymore FIFA games. Instead, the franchise will be rebranded as EA Sports FC.

Despite months of negotiations regarding an extension of their current partnership, the two sides were unable to come to an agreement on future terms. While the current contract expires after the 2022 World Cup in December, EA Sports and FIFA agreed to extend the current deal through the FIFA Women’s World Cup in July and August 2023.

After the expiration of the deal next year, the game will become EA Sports FC. Along with the change of name you might also see some changes in the aesthetics of the game. As far as the gameplay and other aspects of the game are concerned there is very little known about that.

EA SPORTS FC will allow us to realize this future and much more…but not before we deliver our most expansive game ever with our current naming rights partner, FIFA, for one more year,” said EA Sports in the company’s official statement. “We are committed to ensuring the next FIFA is our best ever, with more features, game modes, World Cup content, clubs, leagues, competitions, and players than any FIFA title before.
