God of War Ragnarok Update, Releasing in 2022 ?
God of War Ragnarok is most likely to release in 2022 itself. A social and community manager at Santa Monica Studio’s, who goes by BlueOwlzMedic on Twitter claims that the game will come out this year only. It’s unclear what prompted the tweet, but community managers often get hounded on social media so it’s possible that the developer wanted to put an end to speculations.
When will Sony announce God of War Ragnarok release date?
God of War Ragnarok was originally supposed to release in 2021 but was delayed because like every other company across the globe, Santa Monica Studio was also facing production challenges due to the pandemic as well as actor Christopher Judge’s health issues. Nevertheless, Sony hasn’t given out a specific date or window as to when exactly the game can be expected to release in 2022, probably to hedge expectations because fans got pretty upset about the delay last time. That said, it was only a month ago that known insider and journalist Jason Schreier dismissed suggestions that the game will be delayed again and pushed out of 2022, so we’re pretty confident about this one.
We’ve heard multiple rumors that Sony plans to showcase God of War Ragnarok during an event this summer but there hasn’t been any concrete evidence of this so far. Considering that the game is highly anticipated, it makes sense for Sony to target a holiday 2022 release. A cross-gen launch ensures that even those who have been unable to find a PS5 will be able to get their hands on God of War Ragnarok during the prime shopping season.
According to a Santa Monica Studio developer that works on the studio’s community and social team, God of War Ragnarok is still very much slated to launch at some point this year. In a recent tweet, by a social and community manager of Santa Monica Studio, who goes by the name “Blue Owlz” on Twitter, made it very clear that Ragnarok will still be coming about in 2022. Although additional details about the next God of War game weren’t given in this tweet, the sequel’s launch date is something that very much seems to be set in stone for this window.

Even though this tweet doesn’t reveal any details of the game, it’s still good to know that Santa Monica Studio has plans of bring out the game sometime in the upcoming nine months. Where Ragnarok will actually release within 2022 remains to be seen, but hopefully, PlayStation will give us a new update on the game’s launch date soon enough.
Could God of War Ragnarok be Sony’s fall blockbuster ?
The first quarter of this year was packed with highly-anticipated releases, three of which were major PS5 exclusives (Ghostwire Tokyo is console exclusive for a limited time). While a summer release isn’t outside the realm of possibility, I have a feeling Sony will save God of War Ragnarok for fall/holiday season to end the year with a bang. Good thing it’s also available on the PS4 because the PS5 supply situation shows no sign of improving.
In other news, Rockstar’s GTA Online membership announcement hasn’t gone down well, and we’ll reportedly hear about Project Spartacus next week.
As a reminder, when God of War Ragnarok does end up releasing this year, it won’t be coming only to PlayStation 5. Instead, the game will be released on PlayStation 4 as well, which makes it available to an even larger audience. Whether or not it will also come to PC in the future (just as God of War did earlier this year) is something that Sony hasn’t yet announced.
