JBL Quantum 610 Gaming Headset Review

JBL Quantum 610 Gaming Headset is possibly the one ? The Quantum range from JBL has a number of headsets and other audio devices, then why only this one ?

The gaming market is getting to a point of saturation when it comes to Headsets and other audio devices which may offer tons of gimmicks but fail on providing longevity. Some of the other products from JBL such as the Xtream and TWS earbuds, have faced backlash for not providing good enough quality with respect to their prices

The problem here is, that there are so many options from JBL’s Quantum Lineup, that it becomes difficult from the rest. And why should people choose JBL Quantum 610 Gaming Headset over other headphones ? What makes it better to the rest when it comes to Performance against price ?

SETTING UP

Its not too difficult setting JBL Quantum 610 Gaming headphones, as all the as all the other Quantum devices it begins with installing Quantum Engine in your system. It helps in setting up the various different sound modes that you can choose from.

However, unlike the Quantum Stream, it still does require you to head through to Windows’ actual control panel pages, not even Microsoft’s cute Windows 10/11 redesign setting page.

It even assists you in setting it up through a YouTube video that JBL has set up to show you how it’s done.

DESIGN

The design of the headset is sturdy and fits well on the head, however, for some it might be a little stiff on the ears. The cups are designed to keep you locked in as much as possible so that you get the 7.1 surround sound that you’d be expecting.

The ports and built-in buttons seem more than sufficient, although your fingers might naturally rest on the dial for swapping between game and chat audio, rather than the volume audio.

One of the great features of JBL Quantum 610 Gaming headset is that it gives us the feel of headsets in one. This means that on PC and Mac it allows you to boost your game’s audio or your team’s audio independently. This works on gaming consoles as well but only on PlayStation.

For other consoles like Xbox, it looses most of the features and becomes a very basic headset. JBL needs to fix this issues as there are a lot of Xbox gamers who do not appreciate this kind of treatment.

AUDIO QUALITY

The Quantum 610 headsets are sometimes way too loud and carry a lot of bass. If you are thinking of using it in stereo then you may experience a muffled quality. So you might want to consider swapping it over to 7.1 Surround Sound.

However, surprisingly, on Switch and Xbox, even though on default stereo settings with 3.5mm, the audio was pleasant and of good quality.

The headphones might seem unsatisfactory if you are familiar with higher quality and richer sound. There’s no nuance between highs, mids, and lows. They do their job and we couldn’t find any discernable issues with them once we’d swapped from stereo.

JBL has crafted decent-sounding headsets which are not the best ones but if you do not have any other option you will not find any complaints in these as well.

MICROPHONE QUALITY

Despite all the claims and hypes by JBL, the weakest aspect of JBL Quantum 610 Gaming headset is its microphone.

A tinny, mildly whiny microphone with zero weight behind your voice. It might be Discord certified, but that’s as far as we’d go for using it. Chatting with friends might be super easy and whipping the microphone up to mute things works great, but the quality is subpar at best and at worst, an issue.

GAMING

Forget about everything else, but gaming is something where we all expect the headset to perform., and trust me these headsets are not going to turn that down in this department. The 7.1 surround sound is excellent. All issues that we might have had with the audio during regular use began to melt away, as the 360, 7.1 surround sound began to take its full effect.

Playing games like Counter-Strike and Destiny 2 using these headsets is definitely going to elevate you senses a little bit higher than usual.

It is, however, the time when we have to talk about performance on other things. We tried to get the JBL Quantum 610s to work wirelessly on the Steam Deck. The TWS worked out the box, so we assumed that these would at least connect. While the dongle found them, it seems that it’s an understandable oversight that a handheld Linux PC that no one has wouldn’t work.

The 7.1 surround sound on gaming consoles other than PlayStation is probably the only thing to crib for on this Headset. Besides that JBL Quantum 610 Headset works just fine for gaming.

BATTERY

We were also impressed with the battery life, as it did actually last that rough estimate of 40-ish hours and then we just continued using it over USB-C charging.

WORTH BUYING ?

At the price of £101/$150, and also considering the fact you wish to buy headsets for gaming purposes we’d surely recommend the headphones. They might not be the best headphones if you are an Xbox or Switch gamer, but the fact that they work as intended still provides a decent quality of sound.

Other than that, if you are fond of using Mac then you might want to skip this one and look for other options as these are primarily meant for PC users

On PC you get phenomenal 7.1 surround sound, combined with decent audio – even if it is too bass filled by default – making this headset a great deal.

RATING

The JBL Quantum 610 gaming headset is excellent, offering quality sound and connectivity, though it falters when it comes to its microphone. Due to which, this it deserves 8/10.
