PSVR 2 launch in 2022, could soon be revealed by Sony
PSVR 2 Release Date
The restock of PlayStation 5 continues to be a big situation. However, it seems like Sony is not much effected by it. The PSVR 2 is on track to be launched by Sony in 2022.
According to hardware analyst Brad Lynch, the PlayStation virtual reality gadget is likely to start mass production. The Chinese manufacturer Goertek has been tasked to ensure there is enough stock to satisfy the demand, so that Sony doesn’t in a similar kind of situation as it did with PlayStation 5 . Lynch notes that production of the device will begin “soon.”
The mass production of the gaming headset indicates, that Sony may reveal PSVR 2 in the near future. There is a huge possibility that the design and specifications of the headset would leak once the hardware is being mass-produced, and Sony wouldn’t want that to happen before they reveal the headet themselves.
As of now we do not have much information about PSVR successor. There is no official information about what will the PSVR be called, apart from a vague codename NGVR (next-gen virtual reality). However, there has been plenty of speculation and a few tantalizing leaks over the past few months.
As per a report that came out last month, PSVR 2 could sport OLED micro-display technology. This means the headset would be able to support 4K resolution, 3D imagery without pixelization, and low latency. That would be a huge upgrade from the original PSVR’s often fuzzy and unfocused images. Sony took to the stage at CES 2022 to confirm the specifications of the headset, and we’re extremely impressed.
The design of the headset itself continues to remain a mystery, but a patent uncovered last November may give us an idea of what we’ll actually be putting on our face in 2022.
Sony has at least showcased the new PSVR 2 controller in an official capacity. These orb-shaped controllers look a significant improvement on the PlayStation Move controllers used by the current PSVR. And the controllers will reportedly offer some of the best features of the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback.
One thing to expect from the headset is an easier setup process. While the original PSVR was huge hassle as far as cables and set-up boxes are concerned, it’s been confirmed that the PSVR 2 will offer a one-cable setup. Hopefully, we don’t have to wait too much longer for Sony to fully lift the lid on its next virtual reality device.
You can expect the PSVR 2 to launch this year but due to the ongoing global chip shortage do not expect it launch very soon, at least till the time this issue gets fixed.
